(Edit: The cover is basically broken and the pages are so old and not super good taken care of, so they are "stained", from age. Hence the crazy low price. Just to clarify. I'll post a pic when it arrives!)
Hi! I just wanted to tell you, who also are very into the Bible, that yesterday I bought a Douay-Rheims/Haydock Bible from 1850. It's in "Fair" condition, so I guess that's the worst condition they sell them in, but it's from Abebooks and a 5-star seller with tons of reviews, so I trust that it's in the shape they showed in the pictures. It's awesome and I very much hope that it will arrive. I literally do not care, whatsoever, about how it looks on the outside. The only thing I want is for the Bible to be complete and with no missing pages. I'll just make my own cover, if that is needed. When it arrives, God willing, I will post some pictures of it here!
It was cheaper than to buy a new copy of the usual, red cover, "Haydock Bible". 150$ for the one from 1850 in fair shape and a new Haydock bible costs 170$.
God bless!
Ps. Remember that I'm not in the UK or the US. Hence the weird prices.
Can you be BOTH Jewish and Christian? The Church's answer will shock you. This video uses 2,000 years of proof—Scripture, Church Fathers, and 3 Ecumenical Councils—to show why "Messianic Judaism" and "Jewish Catholicism" are theological impossibilities. The evidence is undeniable.
For almost 1,900 years, every Christian agreed: Christ's prophecy about the Second Temple in Jerusalem was fulfilled in 70 AD. Then Dispensationalism invented a new interpretation. Discover what the Church Fathers actually taught—and why the 'Western Wall' objection fails. THE TRUTH WILL SHOCK YOU!
What Is Sicut Judaeis Non? It was the official Church policy on how to deal with the Jews, starting in the Middle Ages, and lasting until the fall of Christendom in the Modern age. It relied on theology to implement both protection and restrictions of Jews in Christian society. Let's dive in!
Here is a podcast episode where we talk about how when doing Catholic Action many Catholics will just completely destroy solidarity in groups by wanting to stop everything to debate the legitimacy of the Pope, Vatican II, Novus Ordo, etc. Please share this podcast if you like it. Have a blessed Good Friday! This is the Improperia (aka Popule Meus or Good Friday Reproaches). This Gregorian Chant was written from the point of view of Jesus Christ, who is reproaching the Jews for rejecting and killing Him, and was sung at the Catholic Good Friday service for centuries.
Why did the Church once omit kneeling in the Good Friday prayer for the "perfidious" Jews—and later change it? This video examines the pre-1955 text of the prayer and the theology behind the prayer, using Scripture, Tradition, and Magisterium. Then goes into the 20th Century reforms, asking "why?"
